BYD Issues Recall for 183,000 Vehicles Over Brake-Pedal Defect

A manufacturing flaw in the brake-pedal stopper pad has prompted BYD to recall over 183,000 vehicles across China. The defect, which affects long-term owners of the Tang and Qin series, risks misleading other motorists by keeping brake lights illuminated even when the pedal is not in use.

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation confirmed the recall on Friday, citing a specific component failure. The issue stems from a stopper pad prone to cracking or breaking after extended operation. In extreme scenarios, the pad may detach entirely, causing a persistent signal to following drivers that the vehicle is braking when it is not.

The action encompasses 183,211 units, specifically targeting Tang electric and hybrid models produced as far back as 2015, alongside 40,316 Qin series vehicles manufactured between 2014 and 2019. BYD has committed to replacing the faulty components at no cost to owners through its network of authorized dealers.
