Bitcoin Eyes $83K Breakout After Short Squeeze Drives 6% Rally

Bitcoin surged to $81,330 over the past 24 hours, clawing back losses from a volatile week to reach its highest point in a fortnight. The rebound, fueled by a massive liquidation of leveraged short positions, now faces a critical resistance test that analysts suggest could confirm a long-term market bottom.

Bitcoin Eyes $83K Breakout After Short Squeeze Drives 6% Rally

The rally gained momentum after Bitcoin reclaimed its True Market Mean near $76,660, triggering a chain reaction that forced short sellers to cover their positions. This forced buying pressure resulted in over $250 million in liquidations, helping the asset clear key resistance levels at $78,000 and $80,000. Technical indicators on the 4-hour chart have shifted to bullish, with the Supertrend setting a new support floor at $78,677.

Market participants are now fixated on the $83,000 threshold. Analyst Ted Pillows noted that a clean break above this level would signal a confirmed bottom and potentially clear a path toward $85,000. While the daily Relative Strength Index has climbed to 64.48—suggesting strong buying momentum without yet hitting overbought extremes—a dense cluster of leveraged positions between $81,800 and $82,000 remains a near-term hurdle. Should the price fail to sustain current levels, traders are eyeing the $78,300 to $78,700 range as a vital support zone to prevent a slide back toward the $75,000 region.
