Toyosa Adds Bitcoin to Payment Options for Toyota Vehicles in Bolivia

Toyosa has officially expanded its vehicle payment system to include Bitcoin, allowing customers in Bolivia to purchase cars using the cryptocurrency. The move, announced at the Expocruz 2026 trade fair in Santa Cruz, builds on a digital-asset checkout service that previously offered only bolivianos, U.S. dollars, and Tether’s USDT.

The new payment channel is supported by institutional infrastructure from BitGo Bank & Trust, which manages wallet security and transaction traceability. Towerbank continues to serve as the financial partner, handling platform processing and guidance. While the companies confirmed the service is active as of September 2026, they have yet to disclose specific technical details such as Bitcoin-specific fees, transaction limits, or whether payments are converted to fiat currency at the point of sale.

This expansion follows Bolivia’s 2024 regulatory shift, which revoked a long-standing ban on crypto-related financial transactions. Although the Central Bank of Bolivia now permits the use of virtual assets, the boliviano remains the country’s only legal tender. Recent data highlights a surge in local digital-asset activity, with the central bank reporting hundreds of millions in transaction volume since the policy change. Despite this growth, financial authorities continue to issue warnings regarding the inherent price volatility and counterparty risks associated with holding and trading cryptocurrencies.
