The rebranding, announced September 28 by The Open Platform, marks a shift for a product that started as a simple tool for holding Toncoin and Bitcoin. Walt now functions as a comprehensive ecosystem supporting over 300 assets across four blockchains, including yield-bearing products and perpetual futures. Founder and CEO Andrew Rogozov described the move as a transition from a basic digital wallet to a full-scale crypto platform.
Inside the messaging app, the two tools will serve distinct purposes. Telegram’s native Gram wallet focuses on everyday utility: sending gifts, purchasing Stars, and facilitating peer-to-peer payments. Conversely, Walt acts as a high-octane layer for active traders, offering exposure to stocks, ETFs, and metals. The infrastructure will allow users to bridge funds between the two, effectively using Walt as a liquidity hub for the simpler Gram wallet. Looking ahead, the company plans to integrate AI-assisted trading tools and crypto-enabled spending cards, though specific launch dates remain pending.
