Anutin Charnvirakul disclosed that he received a letter from the U.S. President last week, signaling a clear path forward for the bilateral agreement. The Prime Minister expects the deal to be formalized during Trump’s planned attendance at the Asean Summit in Manila and the APEC CEO Summit in Shenzhen this November. While the White House and the U.S. Trade Representative have remained silent on the status of these negotiations, the Prime Minister emphasized that the responsibility now lies with Thai officials to complete the necessary documentation.
The stakes for Thailand remain high, as the nation currently faces a 12.5% levy on most goods exported to the American market, a tariff linked to strict regulations on imports involving forced labor. Economic ties have surged regardless of these barriers; U.S. imports from Thailand reached $91.3 billion in 2025, marking a 45% increase over the previous year's figures.
