Knutson intends to maintain his influence within the firm by remaining on the board, where he will seek reelection during the 2027 shareholder meeting. Wulfsohn, meanwhile, will begin his transition into broader governance early, joining the company's board of directors at the start of the year. This move necessitates an expansion of the board, which will grow from seven to eight directors to accommodate the leadership shift.
To fill the vacancy left by Wulfsohn’s promotion, the company has tapped Andrew Kail to serve as chief investment officer beginning in the new year. Kail arrives at MFA Financial following his most recent position as managing director and head of residential lending at Starwood Capital Group.
