Circle Shares Dip as Jobless Claims and Market Volatility Weigh

Circle stock retreated to $80.19 during Thursday's session, slipping 0.80% as U.S. jobless claims fell below expectations and broader cryptocurrency markets faced a wave of liquidations. The decline leaves the issuer of USDC struggling to clear a key resistance level of $81 amid shifting macroeconomic signals and geopolitical tensions.

Circle Shares Dip as Jobless Claims and Market Volatility Weigh

The U.S. Labor Department reported 197,000 initial unemployment benefit applications for the week ending October 3, landing beneath the 200,000 forecast. While the labor market shows resilience, the announcement coincided with a broader market retreat; Bitcoin hovered near $82,700, and CoinGlass data tracked more than $400 million in crypto liquidations across derivatives markets. For Circle, current technical assessments place immediate resistance at $80.84, with support thresholds identified near $79.11.

Beyond market fluctuations, Circle continues to push its enterprise utility. The company recently partnered with Tereina to integrate USDC and EURC payments directly into SAP Cloud ERP workflows. CEO Jeremy Allaire highlighted the integration as a move to position stablecoins as a core layer for global commerce, potentially reaching customers responsible for 84% of global business transactions. Despite this strategic expansion, Circle faces a complex financial landscape where interest rate sensitivity and reserve income remain primary drivers for its stock performance, as evidenced by recent quarterly disclosures showing mixed impacts from USDC circulation growth.
