Global oil markets reacted to a prospective influx of Russian diesel on Monday, with prices sliding as traders weighed the potential for eased fuel shortages against escalating violence in the Middle East following a deadly missile strike on a Saudi Arabian airport.

Oil Prices Dip as Potential Russian Diesel Influx Counters Geopolitical Risk

West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 1.5% to $90.49 a barrel, while Brent crude dropped 1.4% to $103.29. The decline follows President Trump’s announcement that Vladimir Putin agreed to supply 300,000 tons of diesel immediately, followed by 500,000 tons in November and an additional million tons thereafter. Analysts at Commonwealth Bank of Australia suggest this partial lifting of Russia's export ban could provide market relief, though the stability of these supplies remains tethered to the ongoing damage inflicted on Russian energy infrastructure.

Downside pressure on prices faces significant resistance from intensifying regional instability. Following a Houthi missile attack on a Saudi international airport that left 12 dead and hundreds injured, Saudi military officials pledged a retaliatory strike. President Trump indicated the United States may participate in potential joint operations against the militants. Skye Masters of National Australia Bank noted that these competing factors—Russian export policies and Middle Eastern conflict—create a volatile landscape for energy traders as the week begins.
