Universal Brings UAE-Regulated USDU Stablecoin to Solana

Universal has launched its USDU stablecoin on the Solana blockchain, aiming to provide institutional players with a regulated, dollar-backed asset for treasury management and digital settlement. The expansion leverages Solana’s high-speed infrastructure while maintaining the 1:1 reserve backing and UAE regulatory oversight that define the token’s issuance framework.

The integration allows professional and institutional participants to execute dollar-denominated transactions around the clock. Universal has partnered with Aquanow to facilitate distribution, connecting the stablecoin to a network of banks, brokerages, and payment firms across North America, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. According to Juha Viitala, senior executive officer at Universal, the move provides institutions with greater flexibility to deploy digital dollars within one of the most active on-chain financial environments.

USDU operates under a specific regulatory mandate from the Central Bank of the UAE as a Foreign Payment Token. While this registration enables its use for digital asset purchases and derivatives, the issuer explicitly excludes general-purpose domestic payments within the UAE mainland. Furthermore, Universal Digital Intl Limited holds a separate license from the Abu Dhabi Global Market’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority to issue tokens to professional clients. To maintain transparency, the firm publishes independent monthly attestations to verify that every USDU token remains fully backed by dollar reserves.
