Ripple Expands South Korean Footprint with Meritz Securities Deal

Ripple secured its fourth South Korean financial partnership of 2026, signing a deal with Meritz Securities on October 14 to explore institutional-grade cryptocurrency custody and asset tokenization. The collaboration marks Ripple’s first tie-up with a local securities firm, signaling a shift toward broader capital market integration.

The partnership focuses on evaluating how Ripple Custody and its tokenization infrastructure can support Meritz’s expansion into digital assets. Meritz is currently assessing several potential business lines, including spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds, fractional investment products, security tokens, and trading platforms. Both companies have also discussed the possibility of won-denominated stablecoins, though no concrete issuance plans have been finalized.

Byungha Kang, managing director of Meritz Securities’ Strategic Planning Unit, stated that the firm intends to combine its traditional securities expertise with Ripple’s financial technology. The companies plan to implement these services in stages, strictly adhering to South Korea’s evolving regulatory framework for digital assets. No financial terms or specific launch dates were disclosed.

This agreement follows a series of successful entries into the Korean market earlier this year, including partnerships with Kyobo Life Insurance for bond settlement, Kbank for wallet infrastructure, and Jeonbuk Bank for international payments. Unlike its previous local projects, which focused on specific banking or insurance applications, the Meritz deal places Ripple’s technology directly within the infrastructure of a major securities firm. Ripple’s Asia-Pacific managing director, Fiona Murray, noted that the company now operates across more than 60 markets globally, leveraging its custody platform to provide institutions with an alternative to building proprietary digital asset storage systems.
