Polygon Labs Clears Regulatory Hurdle for U.S. Stablecoin Payments

Polygon Labs has finalized its acquisition of Coinme, securing 37 state money transmitter licenses and 11 exemptions. This deal grants the firm a regulatory footprint across 48 U.S. states, allowing it to integrate compliant money movement directly into its Open Money Stack platform for enterprise-grade cross-border transactions.

Polygon Labs Clears Regulatory Hurdle for U.S. Stablecoin Payments

The acquisition represents a strategic pivot for Polygon Labs as it seeks to bridge the gap between blockchain-based stablecoin transfers and traditional banking systems. By folding Coinme’s regulated infrastructure into its Open Money Stack, Polygon now offers businesses a unified suite for fiat conversion, digital wallet management, and payment routing. This integration aims to solve a persistent industry bottleneck: the complexity of connecting decentralized assets to local payment systems while maintaining full regulatory compliance.

Four fintech firms—Tazapay, Mesh, Toku, and Kira—have already begun utilizing the infrastructure to streamline global operations, including cross-border payroll, account funding, and dollar banking services. While individual components of the stack are currently operational, the unified platform remains in a technical preview phase for selected partners. This development follows a period of corporate restructuring at Polygon Labs, which reduced its workforce in July to focus on long-term profitability and the successful integration of its $250 million acquisition pipeline, which also included wallet provider Sequence.

Polygon’s platform has now facilitated more than $3 trillion in cumulative stablecoin transfer volume. By automating the transition from stablecoins to local currencies, the company intends to allow businesses to bypass the fragmented, state-by-state licensing requirements that have historically hindered the adoption of digital assets in mainstream commercial finance.
