The platform, which follows Mastercard’s $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK in August 2026, allows institutions to manage multicurrency accounts without navigating fragmented banking relationships. Businesses can receive funds, exchange currencies, and settle obligations directly through the API. The infrastructure supports card issuing in over 130 countries, enabling stablecoin balances to be spent across Mastercard’s merchant network.
Early adopters including Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Beem, and Almond FinTech are currently preparing to integrate the system. The platform’s reach extends to Mastercard Move, which facilitates local bank payouts. By 2027, the service is slated to cover more than 40 currencies across 200 countries and territories. Chris Harmse, co-founder of BVNK, noted that the infrastructure is intended to serve as a unified layer for all forms of money, reducing the technical burden for firms building financial products.
This initiative builds on Mastercard’s broader stablecoin strategy, which includes supporting assets like USDC and PayPal USD for settlement. Looking ahead, the company plans to incorporate tokenized deposits and agentic commerce, where autonomous software agents execute transactions. Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard’s executive vice president of Blockchain and Digital Assets, emphasized that the project underscores a push toward total interoperability between digital and traditional financial systems.
