Circle’s Payments Network Gains Industry Recognition at Money20/20

Circle’s payments network secured a bronze award at the Money20/20 event, highlighting a growing roster of over 175 financial institutions. While the company positions these firms as active builders of its global infrastructure, the distinction between enrolled partners and those currently processing live transactions remains opaque.

Circle’s Payments Network Gains Industry Recognition at Money20/20

The recognition follows a period of rapid expansion for the Circle Payments Network (CPN), which reported an annualized transaction volume of $14.7 billion by the end of the second quarter of 2026. This figure represents a 76% increase over the previous quarter, though it serves as a projection based on trailing data rather than settled totals. Circle maintains that these institutions are vital to its goal of simplifying cross-border settlements, allowing firms to manage fiat workflows while the company handles the underlying blockchain minting and compliance requirements.

Competition in the stablecoin space is intensifying as traditional payment giants adjust their strategies. On the same day as the award announcement, Visa and Mesh unveiled a partnership to enable wallet-based spending across Visa’s global merchant footprint. Simultaneously, Mastercard introduced a risk-screening tool for stablecoins, initially targeting the North American market to detect fraud and sanctions exposure. As Circle continues to scale, it faces a market increasingly crowded by legacy processors integrating crypto-native security and settlement features.
