Mastercard Launches Security Suite for Stablecoin Transactions

Mastercard has unveiled a new security service designed to provide financial institutions with fraud, scam, and sanctions screening for stablecoin payments. By integrating traditional payment intelligence with blockchain analytics, the tool generates risk scores before funds move across networks, aiming to bridge the gap between digital assets and regulated banking systems.

Mastercard Launches Security Suite for Stablecoin Transactions

The service, known as Stablecoin Security, functions as a platform-agnostic API that allows banks to monitor transactions without building custom infrastructure. It flags potential risks including the origin of funds, exposure to restricted parties, and behavioral patterns associated with financial crimes. This enables institutions to pause suspicious transfers for further review before settlement occurs.

Mastercard is targeting the increasing complexity of blockchain transfers, noting that nearly 60% of stablecoin activity involves multi-step processes rather than simple peer-to-peer exchanges. The tool is currently being deployed with initial partners Borderless.xyz and Keyrails. A broader global rollout is slated for 2027, with the company planning to leverage its recent acquisition of infrastructure provider BVNK to scale these capabilities across international markets.

Ann Johnson, Mastercard’s executive vice president of Security Solutions, emphasized that financial institutions require deeper intelligence to handle the rise of stablecoins in international trade. The initiative complements Mastercard’s existing efforts to secure automated and cross-border commerce, drawing on the company's annual volume of 175 billion transactions to identify emerging fraud patterns.
