Trump Administration Escalates Offensive Against Overseas Crypto Scams

With FBI data showing Americans lost over $11 billion to cryptocurrency fraud in 2025, President Donald Trump is set to highlight a federal crackdown on foreign criminal networks. The initiative targets fraudulent investment websites and sophisticated impersonation schemes that have surged 17% in volume over the past year.

Trump Administration Escalates Offensive Against Overseas Crypto Scams

The White House event, scheduled for October 21, will feature key administration figures, including Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Attorney General Todd Blanche. Officials plan to outline recent successes in seizing infrastructure used to lure victims into non-existent trading platforms. These efforts follow a March executive order that mandated a coordinated federal response to transnational cybercrime and prioritized the prosecution of scam centers operating abroad.

Federal investigators have already established a track record of asset recovery, with the Justice Department restraining more than $701 million in illicit funds earlier this year. The strategy relies heavily on cryptocurrency tracing and cross-border cooperation, such as the recent joint operation with Britain’s National Crime Agency targeting West African fraud rings. Beyond enforcement, the administration is exploring victim restoration programs, seeking to utilize seized assets to compensate those targeted by international syndicates. The push reflects a broader shift toward integrating private-sector intelligence with government oversight to disrupt the recruitment and money-laundering channels that sustain these global operations.
