A 57 percent spike in fuel prices pushed JetBlue into a deeper third-quarter deficit, with the airline reporting a 257 million dollar loss. JetBlue Losses Deepen as Fuel Costs Outpace Revenue Gains

The airline's adjusted loss of 60 cents per share missed analyst projections of 54 cents, signaling continued pressure on margins. JetBlue shares experienced significant volatility, tumbling during the regular trading session to near record lows before staging a partial recovery in late trading. The financial strain has prompted senior creditors to retain legal and financial counsel, a move typically reserved for firms facing potential repayment hurdles.

Chief Financial Officer Ursula Hurley remains optimistic about the company’s trajectory, pointing toward margin expansion in the upcoming quarter. While fuel costs are forecast to surge 85 percent compared to last year, the airline is banking on its existing liquidity and financing strategy to reach positive free cash flow and a 1 dollar earnings per share target by 2028.
