Shares of the company cratered 31% to $4.24 following the announcement, dragging its market capitalization down to approximately $207 million. This valuation now sits significantly below the $319 million in cash and marketable securities Artiva reported holding at the end of September. The decision to halt development follows a safety review where one of the two participant fatalities was linked to fludarabine toxicity.
Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Josh Schimmer noted that while the company could have persisted with the program, the associated capital costs were prohibitive. Instead of draining remaining resources, management opted to seek a path that preserves value for shareholders. With the firm trading below its cash position, Schimmer suggested Artiva has become an attractive target for other biotech entities seeking a reverse merger shell.
