UMB Financial Expands West Coast Footprint with $506 Million Acquisition

With a $506 million cash-and-stock deal, UMB Financial is set to absorb the Placerville-based El Dorado Savings Bank. The transaction, slated to close in early 2027, marks a significant push for the Kansas City-based firm to plant a deeper flag in California and Nevada markets.

The agreement hinges on a split of 52% cash and 48% stock. Under the terms, El Dorado shareholders receive 13.553 shares of UMBF common stock alongside $1,958.88 in cash for every outstanding share, granting them roughly 2% ownership of the combined entity. Until the regulatory approval process concludes in the first quarter of 2027, both institutions will remain independent.

This move adds 31 branches in California and four in Nevada to UMB’s portfolio. As of September 30, El Dorado reported $2.4 billion in assets, $2.1 billion in deposits, and $0.5 billion in loans. David Cook, the current chief executive officer of El Dorado, will transition to the role of vice chairman for UMB Bank California once the integration is complete.
