Tether and Circle Lead Crypto Revenue as DEX Trading Volumes Cool

Tether and Circle solidified their dominance in the decentralized finance landscape this week, generating a combined $169.34 million in revenue. While the two stablecoin giants continue to capture significant yields from their reserve assets, the broader market faces a contraction, with decentralized exchange trading activity falling by 11.3% over the same period.

Tether and Circle Lead Crypto Revenue as DEX Trading Volumes Cool

DeFiLlama data from October 28 places Tether at the top of the revenue rankings with $121.23 million, followed by Circle at $48.11 million. These figures dwarf other prominent platforms, such as Hyperliquid and Pump, which recorded $14.18 million and $13.04 million respectively. The disparity highlights a shift where stablecoin issuers, bolstered by high-interest reserve assets like Treasury bills and repurchase agreements, significantly outperform transaction-fee-dependent protocols.

Market-wide fee dashboards reflect this cooling trend, showing a weekly decline of 8.87% across major categories. Uniswap and Pump, despite their volume, are seeing their seven-day daily fee averages trail 30-day performance metrics by 27.8% and 15.5% respectively. For Circle, the revenue model remains a delicate balance of scale and yield; the company reported $668 million in second-quarter reserve income, sustained by a 25% increase in USDC circulation that helped offset a 66-basis-point drop in reserve return rates. Recent disclosures reveal that Circle distributed $819 million to partners and transaction costs during the first half of 2026, underscoring the high operational overhead required to maintain its ecosystem.
