FDA Halts Bright Minds Biosciences Seizure Drug Trial

A 36% plunge in premarket trading greeted Bright Minds Biosciences on Monday after the FDA placed a partial clinical hold on its planned seizure medication trial. The regulator flagged concerns regarding toxicity data in mice and insufficient information to justify the inclusion of pediatric patients in the upcoming phase 2 study.

The company maintains the mouse toxicity findings are isolated and inconsistent with observations in other species. According to Bright Minds, independent toxicology experts and peer reviewers have corroborated their view that these adverse effects are unrelated to the experimental drug, BMB-101. The drug is intended to treat seizures linked to developmental and epileptic encephalopathies.

Bright Minds expects to receive a formal letter from the FDA within 30 days detailing study-design recommendations. Management intends to seek immediate clarification to refine the protocol and address the agency's requirements. While the company stated that other ongoing clinical trials remain unaffected by this regulatory setback, the stock's 30% year-to-date decline highlights growing investor sensitivity to the firm's pipeline development.
