Treasury Yields Slide as Election Results Signal Policy Pivot

The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield dropped to 4.897% in Wednesday’s Asian trading, marking a two-month low as midterm election results signaled a potential Democratic sweep. This market shift reflects investor anxiety over the future of the artificial intelligence sector and the broader growth agenda under the current administration.

Treasury Yields Slide as Election Results Signal Policy Pivot

Investors are pivoting toward the safety of government bonds, moving capital out of equities as the prospect of a Democratic-controlled Congress gains traction. Market participants anticipate that a legislative shift could impede major investment in artificial intelligence, particularly regarding the expansion of data centers, which emerged as a recurring flashpoint during recent electoral campaigns.

Sean Callow, a senior currency strategist at ITC Markets, identified this emerging "tech threat" as a defining theme for the coming weeks. Analysts expect tech-sensitive shares to face sustained pressure as the political landscape evolves. Andrew Canobi, director of fixed income at Franklin Templeton, described the initial market reaction as a classic flight to quality. According to Canobi, a Democratic majority would likely serve as a constraint on the growth policies previously championed by President Trump, specifically impacting the AI and natural resources sectors.
