The mounting opposition represents roughly 79% of the 62 companies originally selected for the platform by the joint venture between OKX and Intercontinental Exchange. While the dissenters have not issued uniform explanations for their resistance, concerns regarding share price integrity, trading volatility, and the potential for investors to mistake third-party tokens for official company offerings remain central to the debate. Under current SEC innovation exemptions, these firms retain the authority to prevent unaffiliated venues from hosting tokenized versions of their securities.
Despite the friction, OKXICE co-chairman Andrew Cuomo maintains that the project is in its infancy. He suggests that many holdouts are simply waiting to observe the platform’s performance before engaging. While the venture faces significant institutional pushback, companies including Apple, Coinbase, and Robinhood have yet to file formal objections. OKXICE intends to leverage permissioned Uniswap v4 liquidity pools on the X Layer blockchain to facilitate round-the-clock trading, but the project currently lacks a confirmed launch date as it navigates this wave of corporate skepticism.
