Dogecoin Founder Rejects Mining Overhaul Amid Price Volatility

Billy Markus, co-founder of Dogecoin, has publicly dismissed proposals to abandon the network’s merged mining architecture, labeling such efforts as aimless. As community members debate the technical reliance on Litecoin’s infrastructure, the asset is seeing a shift in market sentiment driven by whale accumulation and technical buy signals.

Dogecoin Founder Rejects Mining Overhaul Amid Price Volatility

Since 2014, Dogecoin has utilized merged mining, allowing miners to secure the network alongside Litecoin using the same Scrypt-based work. This arrangement provides economic incentives for miners to support multiple chains simultaneously without dividing their computational power. While critics argue that this dependency on external mining activity poses a risk to Dogecoin’s autonomy, Markus maintains that removing the system would be counterproductive, noting that he no longer holds an active role in development or specific investments in Scrypt-based coins.

While the governance debate persists, the market has responded to technical indicators. Dogecoin recently traded near $0.0734, reflecting a modest recovery. Analyst Ali Martinez highlighted that the weekly TD Sequential indicator has flashed multiple buy signals—a rare setup that often precedes price reversals. This technical optimism is mirrored by on-chain activity, with large holders accumulating approximately 200 million DOGE. Despite this, institutional interest remains tepid, as U.S. Dogecoin ETFs have recorded a month without net inflows. For a sustained trend reversal, analysts suggest the asset must clear resistance levels at $0.0754 and $0.0797, as current price action remains shadowed by broader bearish momentum.
