Tractor Supply Profit Dips as Logistics Costs Surge

Surging fuel and transportation expenses undercut Tractor Supply’s bottom line this quarter, even as the rural retailer’s aggressive expansion strategy pushed total revenue beyond market expectations. The company reported a net income of $224.7 million, down from $259.3 million during the same period last year, marking a sharp contrast to its top-line growth.

While earnings per share slipped to 43 cents from 49 cents a year ago, the figure still managed to beat the 41-cent consensus estimate tracked by FactSet. Revenue climbed 5.1% to $3.91 billion, bolstered by the integration of VIP Petcare and the addition of 23 new locations. Despite the top-line success, momentum in existing stores slowed significantly, with comparable sales growth cooling to 0.4% from the 3.9% recorded in the prior-year quarter.

Management opted to maintain its full-year financial guidance, signaling confidence that the current cost pressures remain manageable within the broader fiscal outlook. The company continues to lean on its recent acquisitions and footprint expansion to offset the persistent drag from logistics and energy-related overhead.
